1. About Paper Ghost

Paper Ghost is a desktop application for detecting and redacting personally identifiable information (PII) from documents. It is developed and published by Ragdoll Software, registered in the Netherlands (KVK 78068967).

2. License

When you purchase a subscription, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Paper Ghost on the number of devices included in your plan (Professional: 3, Team: 10, Business: 25).

The license is active for the duration of your subscription. If your subscription lapses, the software reverts to the free tier (3 scans per day, 2 files per batch).

You may not sublicense, redistribute, reverse-engineer, or modify the software.

3. Free tier

Paper Ghost is available for free with limited usage: 3 file scans per day and a maximum of 2 files per batch. The free tier includes all detection and redaction features. No account or payment information is required.

4. Payments & billing

Subscriptions are billed monthly via Stripe. Prices are listed in EUR and exclude VAT, which is calculated at checkout based on your location.

You can cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you retain access until then.

5. Refunds

If you are not satisfied, contact us at hello@paperghost.app within 14 days of your purchase for a full refund, no questions asked.

6. No guarantees on detection

Paper Ghost uses machine-learning models and pattern matching to detect personal data. While we work to maximise accuracy, no automated system can guarantee 100% detection. Some PII may be missed, and some non-PII text may be incorrectly flagged.

You are responsible for reviewing redacted output before sharing it. Paper Ghost is a tool that assists your workflow — it is not a substitute for human review or legal advice.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Ragdoll Software shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of Paper Ghost. This includes, but is not limited to, damages resulting from undetected PII, data breaches involving documents processed by the software, or business losses. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the software in the 12 months preceding the claim.

8. Account termination

We reserve the right to revoke a license if we reasonably determine it is being used in violation of these terms — for example, sharing a license key publicly or circumventing device limits.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the software after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes shall be submitted to the competent court in the Netherlands.
