Privacy Policy

Last updated: 24 February 2026

The short version

Paper Ghost processes documents entirely on your machine. We never see, collect, or store your files, their contents, or any personal data found in them. The only network requests the app makes are periodic license checks — and even those are minimal.

Who we are

Paper Ghost is developed and published by Ragdoll Software, a company registered in the Netherlands (KVK 78068967). For privacy inquiries, contact us at hello@paperghost.app.

What the desktop app collects

Document processing: All PII detection, redaction, and file handling happens locally on your device. No document data — file contents, filenames, detected entities, or redaction results — is ever transmitted to our servers or any third party.

License checks: If you have a license key, the app periodically sends a request to our license server containing:

  • Your license key
  • A randomly generated installation ID (UUID)

That's it. No device fingerprinting, no IP logging, no usage statistics, no telemetry. The installation ID is generated locally when you first run the app and is used solely to track how many devices are activated under a license.

Free tier: If you use Paper Ghost without a license key, the app makes no network requests at all.

What the website collects

The paperghost.app website is a static site. We do not use cookies, analytics, tracking pixels, or any third-party scripts. We do not collect visitor data.

What we collect when you purchase

When you buy a license, the payment is processed by Stripe. During checkout, Stripe collects your email address and payment details. We receive and store:

  • Your email address (to associate with your license)
  • Your Stripe customer ID (to manage your subscription)
  • Transaction details (amount, date, subscription status)

We do not store credit card numbers or other payment credentials — Stripe handles all payment data. See Stripe's privacy policy for details on how they handle your payment information.

How we use your data

We use the data we collect only for:

  • Validating your license and managing device activations
  • Processing subscription payments and renewals
  • Responding to support requests

We do not sell, share, or use your data for advertising or marketing purposes.

Data storage & security

License and customer data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Prisma (EU region). All connections use TLS encryption. Access is restricted to application services only.

Your rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Delete your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Object to processing of your data

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@paperghost.app. We will respond within 30 days.

Data retention

We retain your email and license data for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your subscription and request deletion, we will remove your data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain records for legal or accounting purposes.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the software after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
